The Twenty-Fifth Sunday After Pentecost

Blessed Lord, who caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning: Grant us so to hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which you have given us in our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

This prayer is the collect for this Sunday. We read it every year the Sunday prior to Christ the King Sunday which ends the Church Year. It is one of my favorite collects. I love the scriptures… or what the second letter to Timothy calls the sacred writings. This is what I have found them to be… sacred. They communicate the sacred. They reveal the sacred. Therefore this Sunday I want to share some of why I have come to love these writings as I have and more importantly I hope to encourage each of you to take them up and read them for yourselves.

See you on Sunday!
